Sisterhood of the Traveling Susan Apron

Borrowed Photo from Susan's Blog
Susan has just notified me that I am the March winner of one of the beautiful apron's she sews and then gives away each month. If you are looking for wonderful recipes and photos, check out her blog, My Mother's Apron Strings. Attached to her recipes are many heartfelt stories of life and family.

I've decided to keep the wonderful gift for two weeks and write a few words in a journal about what I did in my kitchen while wearing the apron. Then, I will pass the apron and journal on to one of my blogging buddies, hoping she will do the same. Just think, in a year, Susan's apron will have traveled to 24 different kitchens.

Yes, this is a knock-off from the book and movie, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Somehow, I think we will have less trouble fitting into the apron than we would the pants.

Thanks again, Susan! I am honored that you chose me......

Coffee Cake is Ready

If you are in the neighborhood, come on over....the pineapple sour cream coffee cake is still warm. It will only take a few minutes to put on tea. Or if you prefer, I can make coffee.

Today is another day of "serious" gardening. I decided to make a dessert before I head outside to play in the dirt.

This is a simple NO-recipe recipe. It is a easy one-layer cake batter adding sour cream. The topping is brown sugar, drained crushed pineapple sprinkled with my home grown pecans.

In fact, the pecans came from this very large tree that is near the big garden. There are three more pecan trees scattered around the house. Each one is a different variety of pecan. They are very old trees and produce a large amount of nuts.

You have guessed it right. I've sampled the cake while writing this post....just the right amount of sweetness!

Ooops!

Only in my kitchen? I thought it might be the laugh you need for Monday.

I've gone through child birth 3 times, had 3 teenagers in high school at the same time, and now I'm a grandmother. I should be able to handle this.

So, after careful consideration, I dumped the other half out of the pan, let it cool a little, and flipped it on top of the bottom half. Then, I added a generous sprinkling of organic powdered sugar.

Not perfect...but who needs perfection!
