A Barn, Pond, Vintage Building.... for Monday's Country Backroads

The sun came out from behind the clouds,
just in time to highlight the "new green"
 of the winter grass.

Because we tend to think of muted colors in Autumn,
this shade of green is awkward to the eye.

Turning my camera slightly to the right
a stock pond comes into view....

with an outstanding fishing pier.

As I continue turning in a circle, the bright green grass pasture has changed
to the color of the native grass.

There is no shortage of interesting views
 on this Monday morning....
 traveling the country back roads.

Who Says I Can't Fish Here.... for Monday's Country Backroads

It's so tempting on this early Monday morning,
especially since I don't see a "Posted" sign.

So have some fun this week.
Go find a fence.... and climb over.

Looking for Calm

I found it before sunrise this morning....

It is a place where you can get lost in your thoughts.

The only sound came from the well water pumping into the pond. It is so hot here, in Texas, this is the only way to keep the water level up during July.

This little guy was there to get his breakfast.
I'm guessing he is a tri-colored heron.

Don't you agree... it is a spot where all your troubles can melt away?

Saying Goodbye....One Step at a Time

This past week end, I probably photographed the pond for the last time. It had rained on the previous night, which made the temperatures just right for being outside.

I recently had cut a path through the prairie grass, to show the pond to the young couple who plan on buying the farm.

There has been just enough rain to keep the grass growing all summer long.

Reaching the pond, I could see by the reflections, that it was going to be one of those rare moments when everything seems right. Just to make the picture complete, the water lilies, I planted many years ago, were blooming.

Adding to the beauty of it all, were the over cast skies from the rain the night before.

It was a perfect morning....not too hot, no sounds except the frogs and insects. It was a very peaceful moment.

Just me, my camera, and my farm.

There is still a month before the sale is final.

Goodbyes are never easy for me. I'm thinking I prefer mine to be like taking off a band aid....one yank, a little pain for a while, and then it is all over....

Fishing Hole

Welcome to my backyard!

Here in Texas, we generally call them "stock ponds". The farm animals use this pond for their drinking water.
So, fish are the bonus that comes with the watering hole. Oh yes, and frogs, too....

In the summer months, my pond also has beautiful yellow water lilies that bloom. If you are wondering if the lilies are native to the pond, the answer is no. I simply threw in a handful of bulbs I had cleaned out of an overcrowded water garden.  They are just as spectacular as this photo.
