Perfectly Imperfect....for Friday's Fences

I wouldn't change a thing about the rusty red gate...
Do you agree?
Perfectly Imperfect

Nothing fancy here.

This is home....
I'm content to be living on the prairie.

May you also find happy trails

Upright Prairie Coneflower
Ratibida columnifera (scientific name)
also commonly known as Mexican Hat.

They are truly a sight to see....

Snow on the Prairie for Friday Fences

C

During the hottest months of the summer,
you will find these wildflowers growing in masses,
giving the illusion of a light dusting of snow.

Click HERE to read about "Snow on the Prairie Wildflower"
Despite the beautiful backdrop for a simple cedar post and barbed wire fence...
these flowers have a milky sap that is irritating to humans, both to the skin and the eyes.

White Prickly Poppies are the Star of Monday's Country Backroads

As the bluebonnets begin to fade, the Texas White Prickly Poppy is now the bright white bouquet dotting the hillsides. It is a large flower, with delicate petals and a cluster of bright yellow and red stamens.

The plant has great medicinal usage, especially by the native American Indians. If not used properly, it can be very toxic.

It is said that the deer and cows will not eat the prickly covered foliage, even in times of drought.

This is an incredible scene that I wish you, my dear readers could enjoy with a trip to Texas in the Spring.

Thank you, for following along with another ride through....

the country back roads.

Appreciating the Bluebonnets on Monday's Country Backroads

It was one of those perfect mornings...the air was a crisp 59 degrees with a misty haze hanging in the background.

As far as the eye can see, the rolling hills are covered with bluebonnets.

This time of year, there are no words adequate for describing the views.

The colors are not limited to blue. Sometimes an entire pasture will be yellow, pink, and even orange.

Whatever the season, I can always find beauty while traveling the countryside.

Monday's Country Back Roads....

Are you wondering how the one sunflower managed to have a black background?

It is the dense foliage behind the field of flowers.

The sun was so bright today that it washed out most of the color in the foreground.

All heads are down...that must be some very tasty grass.

Vincent Van Gogh, who is remembered for his sunflower paintings, once wrote in a letter to his sister, that he "intends to decorate the whole studio with nothing but sunflowers."

Not a bad idea....

Waves and Waves of Yellow

This is the time of year wildflowers cover the hills and road sides of the Blackland Prairie. Today, yellow was the predominant color for miles and miles.

The last few weeks bluebonnets, the Texas State Flower, have been the color most noticeable.

Then came the pink primrose...

As much as I would like to identify the yellow coreopsis-like flower, I could not decide on it's identity. If you would like to click HERE, you can see my dilemma. The delicate maroon colored flower is a Wine Cup.

I decided to sit down on the ground and let the wild Texas grass and flowers surround me.

At that moment, everything seemed so perfect......

Before They Disappear

The roadsides and pastures are bursting with color from Spring's wildflowers.

The wide open spaces of Texas are breathtaking with nature creating these spectacular views. I wanted to capture the landscape before the blooms are gone for another year.

A close-up like this truly shows the beauty of each flower of the Indian Blanket, also called Fire Wheel.

Do you agree, a photo of the Texas Yellow Star would be lovely framed, and given as a gift?

The tight cluster of light pink blooms from the Primrose....

I would not dream of walking through the thick patch of flowers, for fear of stepping on a single Bluebonnet, the Texas State Flower.

Even a Claude Monet painting could not move me more, than standing in a pasture of Wildflowers on the Prairie....

Friday's Fences

Sometimes when Friday rolls around, I feel the way this fence looks...sagging just a little.

The big bunch of yellow flowers added a smile to my face.

The Cow Who Believes....

The grass is greener on the other side of the fence.

I believe it is greenest in my own backyard.

Hope you feel the same way!

Capturing the Wildflowers

Bluebonnet, Texas State Flower
With the new spring season coming around again, I remember why I live in this place I call home. If you have not already guessed it, "I love the land that I live on".

Yesterday, once again, I took some of the back roads, looking for wildflowers. As you can see, the roads are narrow, forcing you to move over in the grass when meeting an oncoming vehicle.

Although we are in very dry conditions, the Bluebonnets are in abundance on the roadsides.

Many times, the Indian Paint Brush (Castilleja spp.), is found growing with the bluebonnets.

The petals of the pink evening primrose (Oenothera speciosa) are very delicate, lasting only for the day.

Often, they are seen growing in small patches.

Along the road, I spotted the Texas Wild Spiderwort.

Yellow wildflowers are always an eye-catcher.

Because of the delicate lavender color of the wild verbena, it is sometimes over-looked.

When traveling the back roads, I always stop and get out of my truck, just to get a closer look at this scene. It is so peaceful....do you not agree?
