A Vintage Fenton Vase....for Thursday's Show and Tell

As with most of my purchases,
they were simply bought on a whim, because I liked it.
Posting my "Show and Tell" gives me the opportunity to research the collectible.

Today's small vase is a good example.
Here is what I have discovered on a purchase made 15 years ago.

It is called a "White French Opalescent Coin Dot Top Hat Vase".
It is a long title for a 3 1/2" tall vase.

According to Wikipedia
 the Fenton Art Glass Company
made coin dot during 1947, 1952-54, and 1956-64.

The dollar value is probably $25.00

Even though all these facts are interesting....
Remember,
I bought it because I liked how it looked.

For The Love of Bowls....A Thursday Show and Tell

I love how the morning sun casts a wavy shadow,
on the newest addition to my ever growing
 bowl collection.
This dinnerware collection is called Pistoulet,
 based on the book,
The Secrets of Pistoulet by Jana Kolpen.

for some interesting reading
about the book.

Did you know Pfaltzgraff is no longer crafted in the USA?
I had no idea they closed their facilities and sold out to Lifetime Brands.
Much to my surprise,
the label which still bears the name Pfaltzgraff,
also includes the words,
"Made in China"

to read about the closing of Pfaltzgraff,
 an American Factory.

While making the easy 1 click on Amazon, I decided to order a second bowl.
The pattern is called Villa della Luna,
based on the book "Dancing with the Moon, a Story of Love at the Villa della Luna"
by Jana Kolpen and Mary Tiegreen.

The inside glaze is a delicious butterscotch color.

Next step....
 prepare my favorite pasta recipe
to fill my Italian inspired bowl !

The Good Luck Rooster of Portugal..... for a Thursday Show and Tell

Recently my youngest daughter, returning from a holiday in Portugal,
gifted me with two beautiful ceramic items.

It's always fun to see the surprises she brings me
from all the countries she visits.

After doing some research, I discovered
"The Legend of the Portuguese Good Luck Rooster"

If you are interested, Click HERE
to read the story. It's not long....
and rather enjoyable to read.

Sardines also play a big part in Portugal.
Grilled Sardines are a popular item in the local restaurants
So it would be natural that my other gift is a hand painted sardine.

Now I have my very own Portuguese Sardine.

My daughter was happy to share some of her photos for my blog post.

So beautiful.....
Jeronimos Monastery

It's doubtful you missed the color of
my Good Luck Rooster.... a vivid shade of orange.
He fits right in with my Autumn Decorating of golden leaves, acorns
 and of course, pumpkins.

Pineapple from Costa Rica....for a Thursday Show and Tell

If you love fresh pineapple,
I have found a gadget,
that actually makes coring into a simple twist of the hand.

The Pineapple Corer, purchased at Walmart, is made of clear plastic.
So often, as you may well know, gadgets are not worth the effort in using them.
This one, I am pleased to report, is a winner !

For easy cleaning, you simply remove the twist top handle.

After removing the pineapple by gently pulling straight up,
you have about a 1/2 cup of pineapple juice left in the bottom
and a lovely pineapple bowl for serving.

Green Clear Glassware for a Thursday Show and Tell

From the years 1970 to 1998, Indiana Glass Company
offered glassware through a home party plan.
The nursery rhyme plate, pictured above, is just one of many items
I purchased from one of those parties

Dear readers....
are there any of you who remember the home parties?

The child-size divided plate
has the first lines of two different nursery rhymes.
"See Saw Margery Daw"
and
"Where Are You Going My Pretty Maid"

Being fond of green glassware and pottery,
these bowls were found at a local outdoor market.

As was the Fostoria Clear Green creamer...
without the sugar bowl.

A vintage bunny candy dish, bought to display,
 during the Easter Season.

It was been a while since I've had a Show and Tell Thursday.
I'm still in the middle of unpacking boxes, at the bungalow,
with projects whizzing all around me.

The Sandwich Clue for Thursday Show and Tell

As with so many pieces I have collected over the years, I must work at finding a good story to tell you.
Although I've had this beautiful hand-painted tray for many years, it wasn't until last week that I tried to find some answers on it's origin.

The whiteware, stamped "UNO Favorite Bavaria", was produced by the well known C. Hutschenreuther Company in Germany.

It took several days before I found the most interesting story about  the red stamp Sandwich.

A mother, already well-known for her portrait paintings, and her two daughters, produced hand-painted china in the early 1900's, using the imported whiteware.
Because of a long illness her son suffered, Mrs. M.H. Sandwich and her children, left
their native Georgia to a dryer climate in Texas.

It's in Corsicana, Texas, where Mrs. Sandwich imported crates of Bavarian China, to be hand-decorated, using her memories and love of her native South.
It is said, that during those years, thousands of pieces were produced.

A family cottage industry ....and I have one small piece of it.

Hand-turned Wood Bowl for Thursday Show and Tell

For all my years of collecting, this is the only wooden bowl I have found marked "Occupied Japan". Following the end of World War II in 1945 and until 1952, imported items from Japan into the US had to be marked "occupied".

It is rather obvious it is hand made, being slightly higher on one side.

Considering the age of the bowl, I am very surprised the underside still has a semi-gloss finish on it. The logo stamp is also in good condition.

I consider this simple bowl a real treasure, to display in my home.

Brown Betty for Thursday Show and Tell

So what is all the excitement about today. My new teapot arrived!

No...it is not an antique, but the Brown Betty does have a long history. Click Here to read some history on tea in the United Kingdom.

The Brown Betty is an iconic type teapot made from British red clay. According to my Internet research, there was a time almost every English household owned a Brown Betty.

Click HERE to link with Cauldon Ceramics, the British manufacturer of my tea pot.

I don't pretend  to know much about "Proper English Tea".  I do enjoy my morning and afternoon cup of green tea.

Even though I have some lovely tea cups....

I prefer my tea in a mug.

A Wee Scottish Show and Tell for Thursday

As I continue to box up my kitchen for the final move to the Cottage, I realized I have not written much about the items I purchased last year, while in Scotland.

I wanted my purchases to have meaning when I returned home. Tartan and purple thistles are a winning combination.

The cups were purchased from The Culloden Battlefield gift shop.

So, now my Scottish cups are on their way to my Cottage Kitchen....on the edge of a forest.

Eastlake and Victorian Meet for Thursday Show and Tell

Although I am spending most of my time in the cottage (click HERE to read about the cottage), my furniture remains in Das Kleine Haus until the sale is final.

The walnut piano stool is one of the few things I have already brought to the cottage.

The stool was a real gem of a find. The price of $3.00 was not the only reason I purchased it. I knew it could have a better life in my home.

The first thing changed, was the rectangular swivel seat to a round one. Romantic roses and fringe just seem to fit.

Tilted on its side, you can see the influences of Eastlake style.

Another piece I have brought, is a small armless, stick & ball rocker.

From research on the Internet, I know this is called a "Ladies Rocker", or a sewing rocker. It was very popular in Victorian homes.

To this day, it is still a great chair to sit on while crocheting or hand sewing.

A Different Kind of Thursday Show and Tell

Usually I show something vintage on Thursday. Instead, here is a bundle of squirming, playful joy, only a few weeks old.

Meet Mr Bates....a very big name for such a pint-size pet.

He is a puppy, of mixed breed, that belongs to my son's family. You can measure his size by the Sweet Gum Tree leaf, lying beside him.

Already spoiled...and full of mischief !

Going French Today on Thursday Show and Tell

You know how it is when you are packing for a move...and you come across a box that was not unpacked from a previous move? This is how I re-discovered a real treasure from my farmhouse.

The photo doesn't do it justice. The art nouveau majolica pitcher has a very shiny glaze. Each petal, flower, and stem are raised.

Are you surprised at the name? Or, had you already guessed it was a piece of Frie Onnaing?
If my source information is correct, it is dated between 1850-1899.

The inside is a lovely shade of light burgundy.
The pitcher is now traveling to Meggie's Country Cottage.
