Enjoying the Summer Blooms

Do you recognize the bark of this tree? It is from the beautiful Crape Myrtle Tree, sometimes spelled as Crepe Myrtle. The mottled appearance comes from the shedding of it's bark through out the year.

The blooms, this year, are spectacular. This light pink bloom is so heavy the branch is draping over the fence of the Secret Garden.

There are six of these young trees surrounding the outside fence of the Secret Garden. In a few years they will have grown taller than the windows.

I have planted two other colors. This myrtle is a darker pink.

If you are thinking my photo is up-side-down......you would be mistaken. The two white crape myrtles have grown so tall, I had to look up to photograph the flowers.

The white and light pink blooms have a cooling affect for the very hot temperatures in our Texas summers.

Water Lily at the Farm

This is the first bloom of the year for my water lilies. The metal container they grow in, was made to be used in the pasture to water the cattle. I think it gives my flower garden a country look.

Friday Project Day at the farm is about to begin.  Early this morning, before sunrise, I did a walk around to see what I would be working on. The entrance, to the new Secret Garden, was installed a couple of weeks ago. Now the real work of adding flowers and shrubs is about to begin.

I'm hoping these windows, recycled from the farmhouse, will give the look of a garden room. They will receive a coat of primer today.

Water lily blooms close up at the end of the each day. As the sun rises in the morning, the lily comes out of the water and opens up for another day. Each year they out do themselves.

I'm thinking this year will be no different....

Enjoy your Friday

Too Many Trumpets To Count

The archway into my Secret Garden has exploded with hundreds of orange colored trumpets.

On an earlier post, I asked if you recognized these buds.

The first flowers opened...

And now, they are blooming to their fullest.

Do you have a vine that is a show-off like the trumpet vine?
