A Little Bit of England

These two tiny pieces of pottery have been displayed, on a shelf, in my home for over 15 years. When I first collected them, I had no idea that today, I would have so many blogging friends in England.

Do you recognize this pottery?

Do you have any Torquay Pottery? I would love to hear from you. Tell me what you have collected.

In fact, now that I have thought about it, I just may try to collect more. Here is a sampling of some of the mottos you might find:

Believe not all you hear....And tell not all you believe.

Comfort is better than Pride.

Do not hurry....Do not flurry...Nothing good is got by worry.

Words of wisdom for the coming week.

  2. I've never seen any of that pottery before. I've just had a look on ebay and it seems to be known as ' motto ware'. I like the colours of it.

    1. Hi Scarlet...I looked on ebay, too. It's not too expensive. I might bid on a few pieces.

  4. I have seen it before and I think I have a small piece tucked away in a box somewhere - a jug, I believe - I can't for the life of me remember the motto on it though! One fine day I shall get the last couple of boxes unpacked.

    1. You know, the pottery is very fragile. It's a wonder any of it is left in one piece. Thinking of those unpacked boxes....uhhh, I have a few myself, leftover from other moves.

    1. Thanks, Suzy, for taking the time to look it up. As I was telling Elaine, it's a wonder any of it is left in one piece. The red clay breaks apart very easily.
