A Gaggle of Mailboxes ....for Monday's Country Back Roads

 

Can three qualify as a gaggle?

Maybe cluster is the more appropriate term.

 

 

This particular backroad is one of my favorite and most traveled.

It leads me to a small town where I do a great deal of my shopping.

As with most of these roads I travel on, not much has changed over the years.

 

Yes... the trees have grown taller,

and some of the older wooden buildings are leaning just a little bit more.

 Come Spring, I can always count on finding the bluebonnets in the same spots.

 

All the rain, in February and March, has made everything green-up quickly.

 Our state flower, The Bluebonnet, is beginning to show along the countryside.

 

 

The temperature has turned crisp this morning....

As I walk around, I can feel the soft rain saturated ground beneath my feet.

 

 

This truly is a beautiful spot to share with you.

Beauty in the Simple Things...for Friday Fences

 

Although the temperatures are quickly warming

 on the Blackland Prairie,

 the hills are still covered with Spring flowers.

 

 

 

The Texas Paintbrush appears like a carpet,

covering entire hills and roadsides.

 

 

Nestled among the native grasses, our state flower,

The Blue Bonnet, lines the backroads.

 

Simple pleasures to freely enjoy.

Appreciating the Bluebonnets on Monday's Country Backroads

 

It was one of those perfect mornings...the air was a crisp 59 degrees with a misty haze hanging in the background.

   

As far as the eye can see, the rolling hills are covered with bluebonnets.

 

 

This time of year, there are no words adequate for describing the views.

 

 

The colors are not limited to blue. Sometimes an entire pasture will be yellow, pink, and even orange.

 

 

 

Whatever the season, I can always find beauty while traveling the countryside.

Before They Disappear

 

The roadsides and pastures are bursting with color from Spring's wildflowers.

The wide open spaces of Texas are breathtaking with nature creating these spectacular views. I wanted to capture the landscape before the blooms are gone for another year.

A close-up like this truly shows the beauty of each flower of the Indian Blanket, also called Fire Wheel.

Do you agree, a photo of the Texas Yellow Star would be lovely framed, and given as a gift?

The tight cluster of light pink blooms from the Primrose....

I would not dream of walking through the thick patch of flowers, for fear of stepping on a single Bluebonnet, the Texas State Flower.

Even a Claude Monet painting could not move me more, than standing in a pasture of Wildflowers on the Prairie....

Friday's Fences

At the highest point of a hill, not too far away from my home, is a small Texas Historical Cemetery.

Some of the family areas are still enclosed with metal fencing.








The family cemetery was first established in the 1830's. For some of you living outside the United States, this is probably not very old.

However, Texas didn't become a state until 1845. This was basically newly chartered territory.

In 1879, the family donated 1.25 acres of land and it became a community cemetery. Burials include veterans of the War for Texas Independence, The Civil War, World War I, World War II, and The Korean War.

The Bluebonnets and other wildflowers are in full bloom this week. And, yes, that is an outdoor toilet in this beautiful scene.

It was a very windy day, as it so often is here on the prairie. Looking at this photo, one might have the feeling  of dropping off on the other side of the trees.....and you could.
