Look What's on the Lunch Menu

I'm just trying to tempt you. Homemade wheat bread and homemade wieners....
How about joining me for lunch today?

The $3.25 per pound wieners (maybe, you call them frankfurters) are not like the ones made commercially. The quality and taste are more like an expensive sausage.

It is a short drive from the farm to a small community of families whose ancestors are German and Czech.  It is not uncommon to be able to buy homemade bread at the same place you purchase gasoline for your truck or auto. The city market has meat that is grown locally, along with these wonderful wieners made from his grandmother's recipe. With this heritage so prevalent in town, homemade noodles and kolaches are available every day in the local bakery.

Also included in my lunch for today, are fresh pickled carrots and cucumbers made by yours' truly.

I used 2 re-cycled jars a friend was happy to give me.

Lunch would not be complete without a serving of kolaches for dessert.

So, if it's too late for today's lunch,  tomorrow will be fine too!

  2. Oh I love the look of the bread and the kolaches. I've never liked frankfurters - I don't like the smell of them cooking, but maybe I could be converted by good quality homemade ones. Those jars are so pretty! I'm sure you enjoyed your lunch.

    1. I have the same problem with commercial made frankfurters. You might like these. They are even good when sliced very thin and added to scrambled eggs.
As far as the jars are concerned, I saw someone at work eating from them. I said, "Don't throw the jars away, they are too pretty". I think the veggies in them came from Germany.

  4. You could certainly tempt me with the pickles and the bread, two of my favourite foods - and I would be very happy to give the kolaches a go.

    1. A lunch far from "High Tea". I once went to an English restaurant in Texas. They brought out a 3-tier tray of tiny crustless sandwiches. My favorite is scones with clotted cream and lemon curd. Did I spell that right? They were delicious.

  6. I'm drooling not only from the entry but the comments. Homemade franks and bread? Kolaches? Scones and clotted cream? YUM YUM. Kolaches are pretty common around here (even on mini marts) of various quality. But -- I've only seen them with sausages baked in -- not as a dessert. What a wonderful little town.
