Monday's Country Backroads

I've passed this old house so many times over the last 12 years, not giving it much thought until yesterday.

I wonder if a mother sat on this porch in the evenings, watching her children play in the yard until bedtime.

Shutters no longer used to block out the hot Texas summers.

As you can see in the photo, the house is in an open pasture, the pathway no longer visible.

There are two choices of travel when I drive into town. I can take the main highway which is much quicker. But, more recently, I have taken the backroads, giving me some time to slow down a bit. Yesterday, the trip took me on a photo expedition.

I'm thinking I might publish a photo each Monday....

Would you like to see more from the Backroads of the farm ?

  2. What was just an ordinary, empty house has been brought alive with your photos and the stories you imagine. You are just so gifted and I'm happy that I know you, XOXO

  4. What a cute little house. I love the sensible square shape and the slightly wonky porch, the grey of the wood and the red of the tin (?) roof! It must have some interesting stories to tell. I would love to see some more of your Backroads photographs, please.

  5. Well it does seem true -- those metal roofs do last! Sad, lonely house. And I'd love some more backroad photos.

  8. For some reason, that old house makes me think of the Dust Bowl of the 30's. Do you know anything about its history?

  10. I'd love to see your backroads photos! I love to take a different route to the Big City once in a while and also take drives with hubby down gravel roads I've never been on.
