Thankful Thursday

This is what a corn field, that I pass quite frequently, looks like today. We have been blessed this year with enough rain for it to reach this height. Last year, with the drought, the corn died before maturity.

Do you ever start to write a post and it goes in a different direction than you had planned? That is what happened again this morning.

My plan was to show the progression of a corn field from the beginning. Here is what the corn looked like the first time I noticed it in the field.

As I was editing the photos, I remembered a blog I follow, called Mooberry Farm Homesteading Journal. Julie, mother of eight, lives on a 20 acre farm with hubby and children. I hope you check out her blog. She gave me the idea of my post today, "Thankful Thursday".

A couple of weeks later, I drove by the same corn field. It had grown several inches....

These photos remind me so much about a busy life. I forgot about the corn field for many weeks. Then, one day as I drove by the same field, the corn had grown taller than me. The horizon was no longer visible.

So what am I writing about today? I hope my photos allow you some time to be thankful for all that is good in your life.

Life gets so busy sometimes we forget to take notice. And sometimes our problems can seen as daunting as this dense corn field. But, today, I choose to be thankful for the blue skies, the rain and the beautiful corn growing in that field....

  3. Hello Meggie, you're so right about busyness making us fail to notice what's going on around us.I'm glad I joined in with Jane's ' View from my Window' each Thursday because it's made me stop, look and take notice of the changes in the garden. I'm grateful for rain today too. The ground at the allotment was hard as concrete, dry and cracked at the weekend. We have had steady rain since last night, which is wonderful.

  4. Hi Meggie, I'm thankful for...this beautiful world, the ones I love, my bloggy friends, the Lemon Meringue pie in the freezer that we bought this morning, and the fact that we cut the grass yesterday because it's raining today! Lovely pics xxx

  5. It's like that adage..."stop and smell the roses," but in this case, take time to watch the corn grow! You're so right, Meggie, we get caught up in so many things and forget to notice what is right in front of us. I'm thankful every day that you came to my blog and the apron found you. XOXO

  6. Here in Minnesota, it's considered good if the corn is "knee-high by the 4th of July". It looks like you can be enjoying sweet corn right now! Yum!

  7. Those corn do look so healthy! We bought ours today to plant out and hopefully they'll do as well as the ones you've shown. Ours are around 6 - 9 inches high at present. x

  8. I am thankful for the gentle rain which is falling right now, there is a gentle breeze tickling the leaves on the trees and many birds are singing like a choir, despite the rain; the air feels fresh and clean and smells wonderful ...and those are only the most immediate things... the real list is a very long one. Thank you, Meggie.
