Monday's Country Back Roads

Follow me....across this wooden bridge.

Usually, when I drive the back roads, I don't have a particular subject in mind. But, today, I was looking for a a herd of Bison  (American Buffalo).

I did find them... even zooming in, they were too far away for my camera to get a good shot.

The story of the Bison will be left for another day...just as soon as I can find a way to get closer to them.

What I did find on the single lane road, are these beautiful Longhorn Cattle.

Can a Longhorn be aloof ? He certainly appears that way, as he stood there ignoring me.

He looks innocent enough.

I noticed that not all horns grow the same. Some turn back towards the body.

I  believe the one on the right has spotted me.

I know there is a barbed wire fence between us. But, when the herd  started moving closer to me, I thought it was best I get back in my truck....

    1. Hello Heidi...many times the back roads are two lanes with a center line...this is obviously a single lane. When you meet an on-coming truck, you simply pull over in the grass.

  3. I agree...very different from our back roads, but those steers (and the buffalo) are just magnificent! "Take me home, country roads..." XOXO

    1. Funny you should quote the lyrics to that song...sometimes, I really do sing them when out here driving around. It is beautiful country where I live!

    1. Hello Val....thanks. When you are out on the prairie and you see them, it takes you back a hundred years...like the "Old West" with the pioneers. It is very moving to watch them grazing.

  11. I love the longhorn shots...seems like we run into a few of them around here. I always wonder why people have them...I mean is there some advantage to them. Or do they just have them cause they are different.

Then there is one place we pass fairly regularly...they got about half a dozen of them...maybe 2 or 3 more...had them for just a few months...then we go back by and they are gone. I so wonder what happened to them and why they no longer have them.
