The Last Roses of Summer

As I look out my kitchen window, I can see this beautiful rose bush that has been faithfully blooming for many years.  What comes to mind is the poem by the Irish poet, Thomas Moore...The Last Rose of Summer. But, I much prefer to hear Tom Waits, with his scratchy sounding voice, sing his lyrics, The Last Rose of Summer. Unlike the sadness I hear in both the poem and the song, I know my roses will come back next year to decorate the view in my kitchen window.

The night temperatures have been steadily dropping over the past few weeks. Soon, all that will be left of the roses is this photo I've taken.  It is a reminder that spring will come again and my rose bush will take on another year of blooming.

Until next time,
Meggie Mac
