Water Lily at the Farm

This is the first bloom of the year for my water lilies. The metal container they grow in, was made to be used in the pasture to water the cattle. I think it gives my flower garden a country look.

Friday Project Day at the farm is about to begin.  Early this morning, before sunrise, I did a walk around to see what I would be working on. The entrance, to the new Secret Garden, was installed a couple of weeks ago. Now the real work of adding flowers and shrubs is about to begin.

I'm hoping these windows, recycled from the farmhouse, will give the look of a garden room. They will receive a coat of primer today.

Water lily blooms close up at the end of the each day. As the sun rises in the morning, the lily comes out of the water and opens up for another day. Each year they out do themselves.

I'm thinking this year will be no different....

Enjoy your Friday

  1. Earlier today one of my 10-year-old students and I were reading about a fairy garden and how Erlina (the fairy) was getting it ready for... Fairy Day! When I saw your pictures I had a deja vu! You have a fairy garden!!

    1. I had not thought of it that way, but I guess you are right. It is a fairy garden. Thank you for giving me a new idea for the garden!

  2. Meggie that is so clever and the lily is exquisite. It must look amazing when it is in full bloom - has your frog found the lily pond yet? What is the lovely big tree?

    1. Hello Elaine...My sweet green frog loves the garden on the other side of the farmhouse. The tree is one of three pecan trees. They are very old and produce enough pecans to share with family and friends for all our baking during the year.

  3. Love your ideas, Meggie! I've thought about using an oblong water tank for plants that would hide a fairy garden. Love the lily.

    1. Hi Janet...Go for it with the tank. I have another one in the vegetable garden. I bought minnows in town. It only take 4 or 5 fish. The water lily gives them shade protection. Make sure your lily is not tropical and it will take the cold.

  4. I love the thought of a secret garden, somewhere to hide away and read a book or just listen to the birds. Your garden looks HUGE, mine is the size of a postage stamp, but I do love it so.

I didn't realise that the water lily closes at night, such a beautiful bloom.

    1. Hello Lily...and to think, I have three other spots like this with flowers. By the way, I'm still working on my answers for the Sunshine Award you so graciously sent my way. I hope next week I will do a post on it. Thanks again.

    1. Hello Ms Sparrow....thank you for your sweet words. I have been this way since I was a child. I would sit with my paperdolls and dream up wonderful rooms in a house by cutting out ideas from the Sears Catalog. Then, I would add wonderful stories to go with it.

    1. Thanks Cheryl....I call it secret because it is on the far side of the farmhouse. You must make an effect to go there.

    1. Hello Elna...It reminds me of the color of butter. When it warms up more, the flowers will become larger.
