Tomato Plants Are Growing

Ranunculas in the Greenhouse
With all the rain we had last week, the weeds are doing great!

So are the flowers and grass....

The variegated cannas, waking up from their winter nap, have spectacular foliage all summer. Later, when the nights warm  up, they will have orange blooms.

The bees love the blooms that the pittosporum has in the early spring.

They also can't resist the flowers of the honeysuckle vine.

I like my flowers to spill over and creep outside the edge of the garden beds. Here the honeysuckle is sending out runners in the pittosporum. Don't you think they look nice together?

Do you recognize these buds?

They belong to the trumpet vine. It is ready to burst into bloom. Do you see all the buds?

About a week ago I showed the wild dewberry plant. They are now in full bloom. Next will come the dewberries. Then comes the dewberry muffins! And jam, too.

Can you believe the potatoes are this tall in March?

Back in the greenhouse, the tomatoes are getting stronger.

All 72 of them......and six varieties.

And 72 pepper seedlings are beginning to see the light. In a few days, another tray will be ready to come out and take their place in the greenhouse.

They are depending on me for their care....

  1. With 72 tomato plants and 72 peppers...you are going to have to set up a road side stand to sell vegetables or go to a farmer's market! I only had 10 tomato plants last year was was swimming in tomatos! Looks like you are off to a great start!

    1. Hi in Louisiana..I plan on sharing with 4 or 5 other families to help with their food budget. I have a green thumb, and it is an easy way to help others. Just think if we all did that....grow a few extra seedlings. That way the people I'm sharing with, can take charge of the plants and help their food bill.

  2. Hi Meggie, wow you've been busy. It's lovely to grow all your own stuff isn't it? We grew lovely tomatoes last year but they got thrown away by accident, I'm going to try again this year xxx

    1. It is fun to grow your own from seeds...especially heritage seeds. I'll be looking for your tomato photos...

  3. I love seeing all your plants thriving and sprouting, we are several weeks behind you, but the signs are all there. Your ranunculas look wonderful and have reminded me that somewhere in the garden we should be seeing some this year - I can't for the life of me remember where I planted them, so I must keep my eyes peeled for them.

    1. Hi Elaine...I can see from your post today that you have been working hard too...I think the ground might be ready for my plants. I hope we don't get a late frost. That would be bad for the tomatoes and peppers.

  4. Everything looks wonderful Meggie - so green and healthy. How wonderful to grow plants to share with others. We often swap plants at the allotment and share produce with our neighbours.

    1. Hi Scarlet, I truly believe you are blessed if you share with others. Having a "green thumb" makes this an easy way to share and hopefully help other families.

    1. Cherry tomatoes are so good in a salad. Also, when I'm working outside and need a little snack, I go to the cherry tomatoes and pop several in my mouth. This year I've sprouted some black cherry tomatoes. Let's see how they do.
You say, "green fingers", and I say, "maybe toes too!"

  6. I think you have a green hand(s). What a nice idea to share produce. I'm going to have to share plants, since I'm limited to containers.

  7. Hello Janet...When sharing, I always add the words, "Give me an update on how they are doing". The gift just keeps on giving as you get the updates through out the growing season.
