Church in the Wildwood

When I entered the unpaved driveway to the United Evangelical Lutheran Church, the first words that came to mind were, "Church in the Wildwood".

Do you know the lyrics I'm talking about?

There's a church in the valley by the wildwood
No lovelier place in the dale
No spot is so dear to my childhood
As the little church in the vale.....

The simple design of this country church only adds to the idyllic setting by the country road near my farm.

Two historical markers give the history of the people and the church.

Can you imagine a Sunday afternoon church picnic, under the shade of these trees?

Like all country churches, there is an adjoining cemetery.

Walking just a few hundred feet further down the road, across a bridge, is a small pond.

The combination bright sunlight and clear water made the reflections dance across the pond.

Looking to the right, I see the church peeking through the grove of trees. I'm thinking, what an appropriate setting for a Church in the Wildwood.........

  1. It's in the simple and most approachable settings we find our faith. This idyllic setting reminds me of that. I'm not familiar with the song, but it is fitting with your photos.
I hope you're having a relaxing weekend, dear friend XOXO

  7. Recently I was searching Google images to find a white country church to illustrate a post. There were none that were as sweet and charming as your "Church in The Wildwood". (That song was a great one to harmonize to.)
