Mouth of Truth....Country Style
This is an actual tree very close to the farm. I dare say, I did NOT put my hand in the hole to check it out! But, I do find the image, of the hollowed out opening, very intriguing.
Does it remind you of anything? How about the Bocca della Verita , the Mouth of Truth, in Rome, Italy.
Did you see the classic movie, Roman Holiday, starring Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn?
Have a wonderful Spring weekend...

Friday's Fences
The backroad to the farm is a treasure trove of photo opportunities. The wagon wheel fence is located on that particular FM Road (Farm to Market).
I'm joining with Jan and Jer for Friday's Fences ......

Louisiana Comes to Texas
My Louisiana (a state in the USA) Iris started blooming a few days before Easter Sunday. This particular iris, referred to as a pond plant, needs adequate moisture to survive. Mine have withstood winters down to the low 20's.
My youngest daughter, who lives 125 miles from the farm, had irises blooming over a month ago. She lives nearer the Gulf of Mexico, in a much milder climate.
If you are interested in other colors, click on Society for Louisiana Irises. Another wonderful site is My Country Pond. You won't be disappointed in this website.
What I like about the iris, is the ease in maintenance. With very little care, they give your garden love with their profuse blooms.
After all, love is the word I think about while gardening......

More Than Just an Apron
As the days have come and gone since Susan first chose me as her March recipient of her special apron, I have become a believer in the magic of the apron.
The very first day, I was aware of something special about the apron...and with each day passing, it grows and grows. Susan has reminded me the apron chooses the recipient.
I woke up in the middle of the night, thinking about the post for today. My thoughts were churning around in my head. I was afraid I wasn't a good enough writer to get this message across to you. This post is about the day of arrival.
The apron has arrived...
It felt like a delectable piece of chocolate...you know what I mean. It tastes so wonderful you want to take very tiny bites and savor each morsel.
And so, I carefully removed the postal envelope. I just stared at it for a few minutes. It was obvious Susan had taken such care by precisely folding the apron. Enclosed was a card.
Let me say, the pattern style is unique and....

The fabric prints were perfectly chosen to compliment each other.
If you are waiting to hear me say I danced around my kitchen with it on...you can forget that. I will never admit to it....well, maybe a little dancing!
The story of the enclosed handmade card by Susan, I will save for another day's post.
If you read my previous post on the apron, you will remember it will become a "traveling apron". I plan on sending it to one of my followers. The goal is to create a common thread that will connect Susan and our blogging friends in a very special way. Each recipient (blogging friend), will be wearing the apron for a while and then passing it on.
"Susan, my dear new friend....the credit all goes to you!"
Read her blog, My Mother's Apron Strings and bring another friend into our circle. It is not my place to tell her story...she does it so much better.
It may seem like I have overused the words unique, special, magical and apron in this post, but Susan is definitely worthy of any praises I may sing of her....

The River Is Wide....
Do you remember Eva Cassidy's rendition of the song, "The River is Wide"?
The River is wide I cannot get over
And neither have I wings to fly
Give me a boat that can carry two
And both shall row my love and I
Those lyrics were my first thoughts when I decided to go down to the river and photograph it.
This is a river that I cross every time I make a trip into town to the north of the farm, or when I travel east. That is because this river threads through many small towns around me.
I never take the river for granted, but turn to look when I cross over. It reminds me of the twists and turns that a single life encounters.... much like mine.
There is a very peaceful feeling of the river today, as the water barely moves downstream. When the weather changes to rain, the river takes on a much more turbulent look and it rises quickly. Before it was tamed with the Colorado River Authority, it would do a lot of damage as it reached out beyond it's banks.
As the trains leave town, they also must cross the river. You can see the train bridge in the background.
One lone fisherman sits at the edge of the river.....I wonder if he feels the peace of the river as I do today?
Wishing you a peaceful week,

Green Frog on the Prairie
When I originally moved to the Farm, I brought many plants from the city. I believe the Green Tree Frog traveled with me in one of my tropical pot plants.
And so, a new home was found for the Green Tree Frog. Because I keep the flower garden very moist, he is able to survive the dry summers on the prairie. The photo above gives you some idea of his size.
Just for fun, I decided to rotate the photo.....
For such a small fella, he has a loud voice. The YouTube will give you some idea of the sounds he makes.
Let's hear about your backyard frogs........"Ribbit, ribbit, ribbit"
